HR Integration for New Pharma & Biotech Websites
Tip #7 For Managing a Pharmaceutical or Biotech Website Redesign
TL:DR: Understand what’s realistic with your HR team’s resources.
The situation: Your pharmaceutical or biotechnology company is small but growing. Something noteworthy is happening so it’s time for the next level of website.
Whatever triggered your website redesign is often accompanied by a hiring increase, which means your company’s HR team might like to add or improve their online hiring platform. This is an opportunity to integrate or improve your applicants’ user experience.
Typically, pharmaceutical and biotech companies want to integrate the careers listings managed through an HR service into their website. How and how deeply to integrate is a financial decision: the service providers often charge more for access to APIs and the pages may require extra design work. It’s also a brand decision: how on-brand do you want your site visitors’ experience to be? Finally, some hiring platforms don’t offer as much customization or integration options as others.
Regardless of the level of site integration your company chooses, they all start with “View Career Opportunities” or “Job Openings” or … well you get the idea.
The hiring platform providers typically have four levels of integration:
1. No integration: Show the careers list, job details, and the application form on the hiring platform’s site. Your corporate site simply links to your page on the HR provider’s site.
2. Simple integration: Show the careers list embedded in your site, but show the job description and application form on the hiring platform’s site.
3. Medium integration: Show the careers list and the job details embedded in your site, but show the application form on the hiring platform’s site.
4. Full integration: Show the careers list, job details and the application form embedded in your company’s site.
Pro Tip: If you want to see how other companies are handling hiring platform integration, check out their URLs. If the URL is something like “https://www.pharmaco.com/careers/#market-access”, that page is embedded. If the URL is something like “https://job-boards.greenhouse.io/pharmaco/”, that page is hosted by the service provider.
If you choose any of the three integration options, your web development team will need access to an API or script to embed in your company’s website. Your team will need to decide whether or what level of access to the hiring platform you’d like to give the dev agency. If you prefer to not give them access, someone in your company will need to learn how to manage the API or integration process that the hiring platform requires to get the integration going. Your dev agency might be able to walk you through this.
Some of this might sound confusing, but the HR providers want it to work for your company, so they’re usually pretty good about training and helping.
